Onycholysis - what is it and how to cure it This is one of the most common problems concerning the nail plate.

It consists in detaching the nail from the bed.

It applies to both feet and hands.


How to recognize onycholysis?

The first visible symptom is a white discoloration of the plate, which progresses deeper.

Over time, infection may occur, then the color changes to yellow, brown, gray.



What are the causes of onycholysis?


- mechanical injuries,

- too tight, incorrectly selected footwear, high heels,

- too long nails,

- long-term styling: hybrid,

- infections of the nail plate,

- the use of nail preparations - conditioners, varnishes, removers that contain: formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, nitrocellulose, camphor,

- biomechanical disorders,

- vitamin deficiencies,

- taking certain medications.


Onycholysis can accompany diseases such as: psoriasis, lichen planus, alopecia areata, atopic dermatitis, diabetes, hyperthyroidism and other autoimmune diseases.


How to treat?

Visit a podiatrist. The specialist will interview and find the cause of onycholysis. He will clean the nail and recommend proper home care.


Visits should be made regularly to obtain a satisfactory effect and remove the cause of onycholysis.

The duration of plate regrowth is individual.
